Dennis Seashores was first inaugurated in about 1935 and was the brainchild of Carrol G. Seward, a local Cape Cod businessman. Down the road from the famous Belmont Hotel, Dennis Shores was known as Seward's Folly in that it was started in the midst of the Great Depression. Its signature Windmill was actually a replica of a Dennisport Mill that had been there for many years.
Soon, the Dennis Shores' cottages began to attract families who wanted a unique, relaxing, charming and consistently excellent private beach experience at the Cape. Families began arriving at approximately the same time each year, with the knowledge that other families met at Dennis Shores would be there also. Mr. Seward passed along the property to his family to manage it, and in the late 1980's it changed from a family business to a cooperative. Generations of families have enjoyed the great traditions of this wonderful, unique, and special place on Cape Cod.
